Merton Children's Parliament
The Children’s Parliament is a forum in which young people in Year 5 and Year 6 can have their say on the issues that are important to them. Each half term, pupil parliament representatives visit Merton Civic Centre and discuss important local issues.
Previous discussions have included making playgrounds and open spaces more accessible for all. This year, the children have been focused on concerns they have about their locality, including homelessness and littering. It is a great opportunity for children to share ideas and ask questions.
In recent sessions, people from the council who specialise in certain areas have come to address pupil concerns and answer questions.
Here are Garfield's Children's Pariament representatives exercising their civic duty at the headquarters of Merton London Borough Council.
