Admissions
We are a community school so admissions are managed by Merton Council and not directly through the school. Garfield Primary School Nursery
Our Nursery is led by qualified teachers and teaching assistants and follows the Government's 'Early Years Foundation Stage' (EYFS) curriculum. We offer morning sessions (8:30am – 11:30am) and afternoon sessions (12:30-3:30pm) with a maximum of 39 children in each session. Children are usually admitted to our Nursery the term after their third birthday. We also offer full-time places.
Part Time Places – Fully Funded (15 hours per week)
Part time places are fully funded by the government’s Free Early Universal Education Offer which provides free nursery education for children over 3 years old for 15 hours per week (this equates to 3 hours per day in our nursery). Please note that you cannot use your child’s funding at our nursery and at another nursery at the same time.
Full Time Places – Fully Funded (30 hours per week)
Some families are entitled to 30 hours’ free childcare per week. To find out whether you might be eligible and to register for funding please visit https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare).
Our full time places are from 8.30am to 3.30pm, five days per week (35 hours per week in total). From September 2025, parents will be asked to pay £35 per week on top of their eligibility code to cover the additional 5 hours/week which are unfunded. If you are not eligible for 30 hours we do also offer the option of paying for a full time session (subject to availability) and the charge for this from September 2025 will be £140 per week.
We do offer the option for parents to collect earlier, at 2.30pm every day if they do not wish to pay for the additional hour.
The 30 hours funding is subject to eligibility criteria which are determined by the government. If you are offered a full day place and accept this but subsequently do not receive the government funding (or if you cease to be eligible during the year) you will be required to pay the school for all sessions not funded by the government.
Please call the office for more information.
Full time nursery children are welcome to have a school lunch which costs £2.98/day. Alternatively you can provide a nut-free, healthy packed lunch for your child.
Please note that admission to the Nursery does not guarantee your child a place in the main school. You will need to apply as normal, via admissions, for a Reception place.
Reception Admissions
We are a two-form entry primary school admitting 60 children to Reception each year.
In Year Admissions to all Year Groups
You will need to complete an In-Year Transfer Form which can be obtained from Merton Council (www.merton.gov.uk/learning/schools/admissions) or from our school office.
If you have any questions about admissions, please email admissions@garfield.merton.sch.uk or call 0208 540 1053.
